Rarissimo e prestigioso integrato giapponese appartenente alla ricercata serie L (Laboratory) costruito in soli 50 esemplari al mondo.

Il progettista realizzò questo amplificatore dal suono unico e ammaliante nella sua straordinaria trasparenza alla fine degli anni settanta; la commercializzazione iniziò nel 1980.

Possibilità di selezionare il lavoro per diffusori normali o elettrostatici; in quest’ultimo caso la sua stabilità è assicurata fino a carichi di 1 ohm.

 

 

 

 

Il funzionamento è in classe AB con particolari accorgimenti per minimizzare la distorsione d’incrocio ed eguagliare la classe “A”: il suo suono è in grado di fare impallidire parecchi moderni valvolari di pari potenza (il valore dichiarato è di 100+100 WRMS su 8 ohm) per dolcezza, pulizia e selettività. La ricostruzione spaziale è ai massimi livelli grazie ai circuiti indipendenti. Ad eccezione dello stadio Phono, che è considerato tutt’ora un riferimento, la sezione pre è totalmente passiva ed i componenti sono di qualità elevatissima.

L’L 11 può anche essere utilizzato come solo preamplificatore. In questa serie Laboratory non vi sono controlli di tono: sono presenti solo due “compensatori” +/- 2 db per linearizzare il valore del pickup nella sezione phono.

Lookswise it’s very basic, without the look of the L-100 which made you feel like it was expensive, this is a basic box. Looking at the circuit, ignore the IC-looking triangles as this just means R channel is the same as L channel that is all discrete parts. Transistor counts include Differential. Phono x8, Pre-Tone x6 including stepped Tone controls, Main amp x16 but inc doubled output stages & 3x differential stages, oh dear… overdesign.

 

 

 

 

 

This will probably sound fresher than the L-100 but look at the wonder of the Pioneer SX-1500TF & see how amp design is done simply & without all this differential nonsense, oh and it sounds remarkable too. The L-11 probably is much better than most 1980 amps but overdesign as in the L-100 requires too much NFB. The L-100 phono was hard & overdesigned, this has 2x differential stages, odd how others can just use 3 basic stages & sound great. Later Luxmans aren’t seen in a good light from what we’ve read, but they did make more cheaper amps to survive & then they made the premium ones too. Does the L-11 interest us. If one was cheap enough to fix & try then yes, but otherwise “not really” as it’s too late. Can’t find any selling or having sold to get a price idea. Looks like a dual mono type design like Harman-Kardon used & at the price clearly not aimed at casual buyers.

 

 

 

Of the Amplifiers, the 1975-77 made L-100 at 110w is the pick of the brand. L-308, L-309 mentioned above too. L-510 is 100w with an 8w Class A similar to some Yamaha. The 50w hot running class A L-550 from 1983 is similar in idea to the Technics SU-Vx0x series. L-80 is only a 40w, not 80w+ as the L-100 would suggest. The L-550 in early Dec 2012 ends on the same day one L-550 with broken controls you’ll never find sells £720! The L-550A II a modern looking item sells £1247. But it’s only 20w Class A! The Yamaha CA-1010 can do 20w Class A & for how we’ve improved it, there is no difference Class B to Class A. We hope they are happy with them! Much better buys out there & better sound for the money.
